Silent 61: A 61 Day Athlete Challenge

So before I explain this challenge, let me get this out of the way:

Yes I was nspired by Andy Frisella’s 75 Hard. And over the summer during my off-season I will be completed the 75 Hard.

But for now, I wanted to do a challenge that was more personal to me.

So let me give you a little back story. About two and a half years ago, the summer of 2019, I got patellar tendinitis in both of me knees. I had to undergo six months of physiotherapy and rehab on my knees and as a result I missed most of my senior secondary school season. That was tough.

Then covid hit. And as we all know. That was hella tough.

Now, I’m not about to tell you that I was a covid success story because I struggled. Mentally and physically. Between injury and covid I never really got back to training and working to achieve my goals. I tried and tried and tried to get back to my ‘pre-tendinitis’ self but every time I quit. I let the challenge beat me.

Over the summer we started to make progress, got back to working out relatively consistentlty, got my nutrition and diet sorted out, got in pretty good shape and got back to hooping a little bit.

But there is still a level within me I haven’t accessed yet. There’s still a part of me that hasn’t really committed to the process. A lot of times I have said I would start to work towards my goals and maybe have a good week or two and then slowly let myself slip and then try to ‘start again’.

Sound familiar?

Silent 61:

So I have decided to finally break this cycle and truly commit to working towards acheiving my goals. There are 61 days left until 2022, so I am giving myself 61 days to start to build the habits that will help me work towards acheiving my goals as an athlete, an entrepeneur, a student and as a person.

So heres how it works:

61 Days:

  • 3 gym workouts a week
  • 3 skill workouts a week
  • 1 conditioning workout a week

Thats seven workouts a week. It may sound easy. And I’ll admit it is pretty simple. The idea of this challenge is for it to be sustainable, but 61 days in a row is a long time, don’t underestimate that.

The Rules:

  • Once you start this process you cannot quit. if you do all 61 days straight, good for you. But if you miss a day, you can’t quit, You have to restart, pick it up and go again and again until you complete the 61 days. This will build resilience, test your commitment to your goals and your mental toughness.
  • You must document your progress somewhere. I’ll be using social media and a calender. This will hold you accountable and provide motivation.
  • Set goals for what you want to get out of this process. This will give you a vision and the ‘why’ when the going gets tough.

For me, this process will help me build the discipline, work ethic and commitment to physically do the work to achieve my athletic goals while helping me build key mental skills to get out of my own way and get things done in all areas of life.

From a business stand point, it will force my to post content daily on social media. This is a habit that will help me take the business to new heights. And don’t worry, I’m not going to become all motivational and shit, the majority of my posts will provide value to help you on you athletic journey, whether that be from a S&C point of view, a psychological point of view or a skills point of view.

This challenge is not something I want to do. This challenge is something I need to do. I’m not looking forward to this because I know how much it is going to push me out of my comfort zone.

But nothing in life ever worth having is easy. 61 days is a long time and we’re going to have a lot of ups and downs, and the growth will be monumental.

I’m scared and excited.

If this sounds like something you need to do, why not join me.

The Silent 61. 61 Days to a New Year. 61 days to a new you.

Lets get it.
